Meet Big Bertha - Our 1998 4WD, 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser. We've created her as the ultimate adventure truck - she's automatic, super comfy, easy to drive and an extremely capable 4WD. She makes exploring the wild and rugged beauty of New Zealand an absolute dream. Features: Easy Setup: Lucas Creek Rooftop tent - for an all seasons camping set-up ready in less than a minute. Spacious Batwing Awning: 270-degrees of coverage for shade and rain proof shelter. Fully Equipped Kitchen: Gas Stove, Dometic 44L fridge, washing-up station, cast iron pans, 11L of spring water & all the utensils you will need for a seamless alfresco dining experience. Power On-the-Go: EcoFlow off-grid power bank system - an incredible and powerful system to charge anything you may need. Laptops, cameras, phones etc. Comfortable Sleeping: Cozy sleeping bags, pillows, warm duvet, and fairy lights. Shower: Includes a 20-litre shower with hose for easy rinse offs. Coffee Lover’s Perks: Hand-presso espresso machine and coffee. Giving you fresh, delicious espresso even within the depths of nature. Additional included comforts: Outdoor chairs, a dining table, picnic mat, lantern, towels, linen, sleeping bags, fairy lights, and a hot water bottle for those colder evenings. Delivery Details: For bookings of 7 days or less, there’s a $100 fee for delivery to Queenstown. Book for over 7 days and we’ll deliver for free anywhere of your choice within Wanaka and Queenstown.

Hiring rules

  • No smoking or vaìping in Big Bertha or the roof top tents.
  • Pets are allowed but please keep them out of the rooftop tent they are welcome to sleep inside the truck or tied up outside.
  • RUCs Road User Charges (RUCs) will be charged at the rate of $0.09 per km. The total RUCs will be calculated on the distance travelled during the hire period and will be charged to the hirer on completion of the hire.
  • Return Bertha clean and tidy please.
  • Damage If damage happens, you must report it immediately who, what, where and when will be required
  • Return full of DIESEL All hires include a full tank upon departure. If not returned full there will be a refuelling fee.
  • Have fun!
  • Hirer must be 24 years of age or older.

Cancellations

Flexible

  • Cancel earlier than 10 days before the start of the booking and receive a full credit. Refunds available upon request (less any admin fees) and may take up to 30 days to process.
  • Cancel between 4 and 10 days before the start of the booking and receive 90% credit. Booking fees will not be credited.
  • Cancellations less than 4 days before the start of booking will not be eligible for any credit or refund.

    We had a great time exploring the South Island in Big Bertha. The car had a great setup with everything we needed for our trip. Gareth had great communication and worked out pickups/drop offs around our flights and schedule. Would 10/10 recommend!
