Big Dubby is a comfortable, modern 4WD van. It drives very much like a car, with enough power for the many hills here in NZ. With permanent 4WD, Big Dubby is sure footed on the many gravel roads you will encounter, and it sleeps two comfortably. The 3rd berth would be in like a camp bed (shown) suitable for a smaller child. I converted this van for myself before deciding to rent it out. I designed it to be off-grid and self-contained so I could get off the beaten track and explore NZ. A large lithium battery will give you plenty of power for your creature comforts, and coupled to a 1200w inverter, it powers the induction hob and any laptops, e-bikes or other 240v appliances you want to take. The battery recharges while you’re driving and via a solar panel on the roof, so you won’t run out. 65l of fresh water is stored in tanks under the van, giving you plenty of water capacity for off-grid exploring – did I mention the outside shower? Perfect to hose yourself (or your gear)down after a day out. The kitchen pod contains a slide-out bench, allowing you to cook outside. If it’s cold, cook and eat inside using the inside table. There is plenty of storage for your provisions. Some vans have tiny fridges, but Big Dubby has ample fridge and freezer space, so at the end of the day, come home to an ice-cold drink. The van comes with all your kitchen essentials - basic pots, crockery, cutlery, coffee pot, hand and dish towels. Table and chairs are included for al fresco dining and all the basics for a comfortable journey, we can include bedding for a small fee if you need that too. (pillows duvet, sheets) The LED lights in the roof and dimmable colour-change LED strips give the evenings some internal atmosphere if you’re just chilling, watching a movie or reading in bed. NZ can be cold at night, but the onboard diesel heater will keep you toasty and warm. All the windows are tinted for privacy, with good blackout curtains if you need a lie-in. We can hire you a bike rack, paddle board, roof box, BBQ and maybe some other things to make your holiday more enjoyable (See optional extras section) We can store suitcases for you too. I would look at one way hire but there would be a relocation cost, and it would depend on time of year, Duration of hire and drop off in relation to Chch etc.

The van is brilliant, super comfortable bed and plenty of space inside. Loved the big fridge, and loads of storage for bags. The van is self contained, and means you get cheaper, and better located pitches on sites (closer to beach) as no plug in required - the van batteries charge as you go, and from solar panels. Its automatic, with powerful engine, which makes driving the many hairpin bends simple and easy allowing you to enjoy the views. Rob is a fantastic - friendly and loads of good advice and help. Pickup and drop-off very quick and efficient.

THE perfect campervan for an outdoor NZ experience. Has got everything you need for freedom camping and exploring the amazing nature of Aotearoa. Rob was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. Definitely do recommend for adventurous travellers.

we had a great trip with Big Dubby, drove very well, and felt like it had all the things we needed, we loved the awning for when it rained, and the battery had no issue charging between solar and the driving we did around the south island for 15 days. we were a bit unlucky and had a flat tyre on the first night but a full proper spare was provided and worked great once we got to a bigger town the owner Rob had arranged a new tyre and had it waiting for us, so we could continue to have a good spare on our trip. Excellent communication, a very well-designed van, and a nice firm bed.

We had an amazing experience with Big Dubby during our South Island trip. The van was incredibly easy to drive, and the cruise control made long drives much less exhausting. Big Dubby came fully equipped with everything we needed, and the pull-out drawer was especially convenient for preparing and cooking meals every night. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, ensuring we were well-rested for our adventures. Rob was fantastic to deal withcommunication was seamless, and both the pickup and drop-off process were super easy. Big Dubby was reliable, comfortable, and made our trip truly enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone planning a road trip!
