After a freak warehouse fire last year causing my last motorhome to go up in flames, with the insurance money I introduce "Burnie" Having lapped the South Island 12 times over the last 5 years, I've found all the good camp sites, and the bad and prepared potential routes for your NZ getaway! With an online Google maps file with all my favourite spots; free camps, the best caravan parks, attractions, hikes and even the best bakeries. This can serve as a rough guide to you getting the most out of your holiday. Every marked location has a description and tips that only a local would know. This spacious van can accommodate up to 6 people (although there are 7 'beds') The top bunk is sized for a child, but works great as storage for luggage and ski gear. The other 2 bunks are slightly smaller than a single bed but very comfortable. As 6ft 105kg man, I've slept comfortably in the adult bunk beds. Although head room is at a minimum. The bunks have fixing point for a cargo net that will keep luggage on the beds while traveling, also doubling as a safety net to prevent children rolling out of bed. A double bed above the cab works well for a smaller couple for sleeping because the table can stay setup, perfect for rolling out of bed and making a cuppa and soaking in the panoramic view in the lounge area. Or if you aren't as mobile, or need a few sneaky trips to the bathroom to get through the night and don't want to be dealing with climbing a ladder, it only takes a couple of minutes to change to lounge into a double bed. There is an additional table the can be used in the cab so you don't have to pack up the bed everyday. This is known as honeymoon mode 😉 Everything you need for cooking and a basic panty with oil, spices, sugar, tea, coffee, condiments, homemade granola, home-grown eggs, whitikers chocolate & Kiwi Drip (NZ classic) paper towel, toilet paper and dishwashing & laundry items, even some wine are included in the service fee. We understand you don't want to spend up big at the supermarket for your short trip. I ask that you thouorghly check the pantry before going shopping so, to save doubling up/ waste. Ample fresh linen and towels ($30 fee to assist with hours of laundry) Not shown in the pictures is a new large toolbox holding all the camping accessories including bbq, chairs, kayak, tools, frisbees, hammock, also working for dirty boots (please use a garage bag,) and a secondary gas bottle so you definitely won't get stuck without gas. I've set you up like I would family or friends visiting, you'll have discount cards for shopping, fuel and alcohol 🍻🥂 Also a liquid laundry card that is easy to top up, these laundromats can be found in almost every town and take 30 minutes for a wash. I've equipped the van with multiple hanging spots to hang or dry clothing that aren't made for the dryer - 10 USB Charging ports, 2 power points when plugged in at caravan parks. - A small fridge that which when used with the chilly bin provide ample space for a couple of days of supplies. - 2 burner gas stove with grill - Also has Bluetooth connectivity with speakers in the living section, which can run all night without flattening the starting battery 🎶 - Quality camping chairs and compact outdoor table, hammock and picnic blanket, frisbees, cards and board games. - Large chilly bin (esky/ cooler) with a crisper drawer allowing you to free up fridge space with a place to store cheese and fruit/ vege - Solar and batteries so you can getaway from the towns and soak up the South island beauty as its intended. Enough power for up to 2 days without any input - 2000w inverter, capable of running all your 240v (housepower) devices like laptops, electric toothbrush ect. Even an air fryer or hair dryer! All while off the grid - A diesel heater that will keep you toasty at a push of a button, you can run it all day & night for those chilly winter times safely as there are no fumes, also super handy for helping to dry wet gear . - Gas hot water system. Press a button and 20 minutes later you'll have hot water to shower or do the dishes. - Separate tap fir filtered drinking water. -Cocktail shaker, Wine rack & glasses 🥂 - 3 Roof vents, 2 reversible roof fans that can push or pull air. Opening windows and pulling the hot air out, works very well in summer to keep cool, even in rainy weather. - Large awning to keep you dry and out of the sun, easy operation with setup in just a few minutes. - Dash cam + reversing camera, with Android auto/ Apple car play to make navigation a breeze. - Dedicated laundry cupboard with 2 washing baskets with wetbags (you don't want your smelly clothes kicking around your bag!) - Convenient compost bin as well as large garage bin Additional items can be added to help make your trip more enjoyable, including: - Webber baby Q BBQ with pizza stone -2 person kayak (blow up but it works great even in the ocean) it only takes 10 minutes to setup - Garmin emergency beacon for hiking/ kayaking, giving satellite weather updates and sms, along with emergency medical/ rescue insurance - Unlimited wifi (not starlink, very small chance there may not be reception at some camp sites) - Child/ booster seat can be added the rear of the motorhome at an additional cost. Or you can provide your own at no cost, although they would have to be removed for the longue area to be used as a bed. Please discuss with me when booking. - Gold panning Equipment - Fishing rods x 2 * Inline with camplify & NZ government kms will be charged at 0.09 cents/km as diesel tax (RUCs) that will be deducted from your bond. * Tolls are included in the service fee, if any. *Bookings over 21 days will receive a 10% day rate discount. Please message me with the required dates and I can adjust the price accordingly. Not used in conjunction with any other offers. *If you plan on going to the Clay cliffs, please discuss this with me as a strict 30km/hr speed limit (enforced by me and gps tracker) applies. Perfectly safe, just very rough on the van. It'll only take you 10-15 minutes longer but will look after Burnie! Happy holidaying 😊

Burnie the Benz was a great van! We did an awesome 2 week trip all around the South Island with our 2 kids. Sam was so helpful with itinerary suggestions and answering any of our questions. He has set up the van so well with all the extras a home away from home could want. If you love cooking, then you will love all the spices and condiments he provides. All the little details are thought of. The bunks worked well for storage of bags up the top, and kids below. It was a great vehicle to drive. Also a handy pick up from QT airport and he kindly dropped us back at the airport. Thanks so much we have taken away so many wonderful family memories from the trip!!

We booked Burnie after an extensive search for the perfect campervan. Despite this being a new listing, we took a chance based on the detailed descriptionand we are 100% glad we did. From the moment I booked, Sam's communication was exceptional. He provided local insights and curated itineraries that shaped our entire trip. Once we finalized our plans, he equipped Burnie with everything we needed for our activities. He went above and beyond by delivering Burnie directly to our hotel and thoroughly walking us through all the amenities, sharing his own experiences and tips. As first-time campervan renters, this made all the difference and put us completely at ease. We felt incredibly safe in Burnie throughout our journey. My boyfriend was nervous about the drive to Milford Sound, but Burnie handled the hills effortlessly and impressed us both. Sam's thoughtful touches made Burnie feel like a home away from home. Whether we were cooking complete meals or relaxing with epic views through Burnie's large windows, it was everything we'd hoped for. Sam remained accessible and communicative throughout our trip, adding thoughtful touches he knew would enhance our experience. I'll forever have fond memories of Burnie and the South Island. I wholeheartedly recommend hiring Burnie and working with Sam. Thank you, Samyou're an incredible person!

We booked Burnie the Benz for an incredible 4 day tour of the South Island. From the initial booking right through the van drop off, Sam was incredibly helpful and responsive: all of our questions before we arrived were answered quickly, and he made sure we were comfortable with the van itself when we picked it up. He also provided us with so many helpful tips and tricks which made our vacation truly special: what to see, how to get there, where we should stay, where to do laundry if we needed to, and where to find the best pie. We could not have asked for more. The van itself more than met our needs for both space and amenities. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cookware, and the bathroom is large enough to comfortably shower in. Converting the lounge/seating area to a double bed also allowed us to wake up to the most amazing views each day. It is obvious a lot of thought has gone into storage within the van: cargo nets on the bunk beds allowed us to securely store our belongings while driving, and having a separate space for our dirty laundry was wonderful after a few sweaty hikes. The van has plenty of hanging rods and hangers for your clothes and towels, while ample USB ports throughout ensured our phones and cameras were always fully charged to capture the incredible scenery. 10/10 - we strongly recommend renting Burnie the Benz. We loved New Zealand and are already talking about returning next year for a longer trip, and this van will be at the top of our list.
