We had the best adventure in The Big Easy, or Big Bertha as we called her. She was just bulletproof on the roads. Some of the hills and places I went I just worried that she would let me down now I was in trouble but she never did. Mark was amazing and a pleasure to deal with and have a laugh.

The van was great in the respect that most everything worked as it should for an older van. It got decent milage. It has a beautiful large back window. And the price was right. However the last item verified at the start of the hire was the gas stove; the propane tank was found to be empty. The traveling lock on the refrigerator door would not unlock properly and twice we spent several very apprehensive minutes wondering if our food and drink would be held hostage the rest of our hire. We resolved this issue by placing heavy items in front of the door while traveling. The interior living space was pretty dusty throughout and all the windows inside and out were mostly dirty. Nothing a 20 minute cleaning didn't resolve our first night at a holiday park. In person Mark was very accommodating, helpful and friendly, and generously gave us a ride in his car at the start and end of the hire saving us 40-50 dollars in taxis. Remotely Mark was unnecessarily curt and difficult to communicate instructions in a timely manner. Both at the start and end of the hire Mark didn't handle communication regarding the hand off instruction times in a comforting manner. Causing us unfriendly anxiety.

First, there is no solar system even though advertised. When asked about it, there was no response. Therefore, no power when freedom camping. The refrigerator did not work on gas so our food spoiled. It appears that they have not done an evaluation of anything in the van for quite sometime. So many things broken or missing. We sent a list at the start of the trip and only got a few of the items. We really did not know how bad the communication was until we rented the second camper on the North Island and we had a person who actually explained how things worked. What a difference!! The video does not explain how to handle a cassette type toilet, only said look online. Everything I found was for a black water tank with a hose. We did not know how to do it until we requested a youtube from Mark and Mel sent me one while we waited at a dump station. We did not know we were to put deodorizer in there until told at by the second person. We also found out with our second camper that the gas does not work on the fridge unless the camper is level. Not that there were any means provided to level the camper. The back up camera only showed the ground right below the bumper. It was very old. Maybe, as was shown by second camper owner, the camera can scroll up? Never was told how to fix it. Tried on our own but unsuccessful. On top of that, we started getting the CO2 Fire alarm going off. We could not figure that one out. They did end up giving us one night at a hotel when the vent cover blew off at the end of the trip and there was no protection from the elements. I appreciated that. Mel tried her best but we never once heard from Mark, who is listed as the owner.

The van was as pictured/described. Comfortable bed, good kitchen and had everything we needed. We had to refresh ourselves on driving a manual vehicle but this wasnt an issue! Mark was great to deal with and really helpful and flexible with our changing times.
