It was a great trip, the van was great for what we needed. The fuel efficiency is great. The communication with Steph was great, the convenience of picking it up at Ashburton was also great. Overall very pleased.

Super nice owners who helped where they could. The van is in great mechanical shape and was fun to drive. it has a great awning and is well insulated. It also has an electric fan for great ventilation The actual living conditions are pretty rough. The bed is not long enough for someone over 5 feet 6 inches. They have constructed some sort of add on but it falls to the ground immediately so sleeping was difficult. The stove top is connected to Propane (LPG) and burst into flames the first time we used it so that was scary. The fridge also runs off of propane so it is unusable unless it is outside of the van. After the stove incident, we didn't want to use the fridge either. It was a bummer because it has a lot of potential, but none of the stuff really worked. Again, super nice folks but the van didn't meet expectations.

Vanessa, the Eternal Traveler Our first campervan adventure wasnt in a futuristic model but in Vanessa, a seasoned traveler from 2005 with more stories than a backpacker at an airport. Despite her years, she feels well cared for, road-ready, and full of character. The owners introduced her like an old friendwith patience, detail, and the promise to be there if needed. And so, we hit the road. Soon, we realized that freedom has wheels and that coffee tastes better when you wake up in the middle of nowhere. Comfortable, functional, and fully equipped for adventure, Vanessa isnt just a vanshes the perfect first love for anyone looking to fall for the road.

Had a great time driving with Finn all around the South Island - brilliant value for money, good fuel economy and Steph/Kaiden were very helpful and responsive. Only slight downside was running the battery flat leaving the key in to charge my phone, not realising that the fridge drains the battery really quickly. Perfect for a solo trip, maybe a bit of a squeeze for two people. Comes well kitted out with all the utensils/equipment etc you could need.

Minimal effort has been put into setting up this van and even less effort has been put into maintaining it. The air conditioning was broken (in the peak of summer) which they knew about and didn't communicate before hand. The fridge didn't work on pickup, which they kindly arranged for us to pickup a new one as quickly as they could, however the replacement was so cheap it couldn't maintain temperature. Mattress is around 175cm so anyone over 160cm is going to have a rough time. They said it was 190cm. The gas cooker needed to be lit with a cigarette lighter instead of a gas lighter insuring you get burnt. That's not thrifty, that's unsafe. Good luck with using the gas too, the connections have opposing threads so they can't be tightened together, leaking gas next to an open flame. The water tank hasn't been disinfected. We were feeling sick when drinking from it and recovered when we stopped. The uneven worn back tyre punctured in an area without reception. The spare was so old the rubber was cracked and it popped immediately, luckily it happened at low speed or our trip might have had a different ending. Truly ruined the holiday and made it far more expensive than we had planned.

This oldy-goldy van has a charming character, is well used, yet, enormously reliable and safe to travel with. It definitely is a vehicle in which youre able to explore New Zealands beauty. Due to his age it does not come with modern technology, so you better know how to read a map or have a NZ travel plan (sim card) and use your smartphone for navigation. If youre a music lover, you also would need to bring either your own Bluetooth box, CD (if you dont know what it is, you shouldnt drive this van ;) ) or listen to the good old radio station. Due to the early spring weather conditions, I didnt really use the equipment the van had to offer, but I am sure youll have a great time once warmer days have arrived. Long story short; You cant do anything wrong renting this vehicle.
