With its low-kilometre 2019 build and efficient diesel engine sipping only about 10 litres per 100 kilometres, you'll enjoy long, carefree days on the road. Inside, the spacious three-berth layout offers comfort and convenience, with plenty of standing room (190cm+) while full self-containment (green sticker) opens the door to New Zealand’s renowned freedom-camping spots—quiet lakesides, windswept coastlines, and forest-fringed clearings where you can settle in with no rush to be anywhere else. Whether you’re winding through alpine passes, exploring remote peninsulas, or waking up to sunrise over a hidden bay, Clifford will make your journey smooth, cosy, and full of the kind of memories that only come from travelling your own way. Clifford is equipped with a double element induction hob, an air frier, an electric kettle, a coffee moka pot, two camping chairs and a camping table, and an 85 litre fridge with freezer. There is a fixed toilet under the main bench, and a retractable wooden table that can be used inside the van on rainy days.

Hiring rules

No smoking in the van
If the toilet or gray water tanks are not emptied, a $200.00 cleaning fee will apply
Please return the van with a full tank of diesel fuel. A $50.00 service fee, plus $3.00 per liter will be assessed if the tank is not full, or at the same level upon return as when the trip was initiated.
There is an average 100km per day limit. (Days rented x 100 = Total allowed km per rental) Anything over the 100km per day limit will see an additional charge of $0.20 per km.
Diesel in New Zealand is not taxed the same as regular petrol. At the pump you will typically pay about $0.60$0.70 cents less per litre for diesel. Instead there is a Road Usage Charge (RUC) that New Zealand levies on Diesel vehicles of 7.6 cents per km. While you will save almost the same amount when you fuel the van, the RUC tax will be billed at the end of your rental through Camplify based on the distance you have driven.

Cancellations

Strict

Cancel earlier than 45 days before the start of the booking and receive a full credit. Refunds available upon request (less any admin fees) and may take up to 30 days to process.
Cancel between 45 and 20 days before the start of booking and receive a 90% credit. Booking fees will not be credited.
Cancellations less than 20 days before the start of booking will not be eligible for any credit or refund.

Our time in New Zealand was great for 3 main reasons. First New Zealand is beautiful and seems to have limitless beauty that you can explore. Second, Clifford was the perfect campervan for us to spend 5 weeks traveling the countryside together. Queen size, and comfortable bed made sleeping easy and restful. The kitchen, with an induction stove, an air fryer, and sink made it possible to cook indoors in any weather. The solar panels that powered the batteries were great also. We never saw the battery percent below 94%. And the garage below the bed allowed us to store all of our extra luggage, and also the couple we were traveling with their luggage also. Plus, two inflatable kayaks! Third, John, the owner, was always quick to respond and answered all of our questions. 5 stars for John and Clifford Roger

Clifford the big red van is AMAZING! John and his wife have thought of everything, plenty of cooking tools and utensils, thoughtful touches (right down to some chilled water and chocolate in the fridge). The van has an induction hob, and plenty of power to run devices, air fryer and induction without any issues - we probably only used about 10% power in the evening and the huge solar panel charged the battery back to 100% before we had even pulled ourselves from the bed. Highly recommend.
