Hiring rules

• We trust that you’ll treat Zara with the same love and care as if she were your own. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip for everyone, here are a few key rental guidelines:
• Where You Can & Can’t Drive:
• 🚫 No offroad driving, beach driving, or skifield access. Zara is built for adventure but not for rough terrain.
• Respect the Space:
• 🚭 No smoking inside the van.
• 🐾 Pets may be approved upon request—just ask!
• 🔥 No hot pans or plates on the bench top without a placemat or board (provided). The bench is a unique redbeech piece from our family farm, and we want to keep it in perfect condition for future adventurers.
• Returning Zara – Easy & HassleFree:
• Before returning, please ensure:
• ✔ The interior is clean (just as you received it).
• ✔ The toilet cassette and waste water tank are emptied.
• ✔ The diesel tank is full (supplied full, so please refill before returning).
• ✔ The LPG gas bottle is refilled (this can be done at NPD petrol stations).
• Kilometres & Road User Charges (RUCs):
• 📍 A daily driving limit of 200 km/day applies. This is averaged out over the course of your entire trip, so if you have a couple of days with less driving, you’re unlikely to exceed the limit. Extra kms are absolutely fine, but they will incur a $0.75/km charge, handled via Camplify and deducted from your bond after your trip.
• 🛣️ Diesel vehicles in NZ require Road User Charges (RUCs) of $0.09/km—this cost is passed on to you and will be calculated based on your total distance driven.
• In Case of Emergency:
• 🛑 Engine Light On? Pull over immediately and stay safe.
• 📞 Accident or Damage? Move to a safe location and call Camplify on 0800 779 779.
• 🚑 Any damage must be reported immediately with details on who, what, where, and when.
• Driver Requirements:
• ✅ Hirer must be 21 years or older.

  We had the most incredible time in Zara! The van exceeded all expectations. It was kitted out perfectly for all eventualities camping and had no issues with it. Clare and Rowan were extremely friendly and helpful. Before our trip we received an exhaustive list of recommendations on where to go and see on the South Island which were all excellent. Collecting and dropping back the van was stress free and it was great to chat to Clare and Rowan. Would definitely recommend using Zara as the perfect van for exploring the South Island! It is a perfect size van which means it is easy to manage but has all of the amenities to do multiple weeks camping.

  Pistachio Zara fulfilled everything we hoped for on our 2 week trip; we did a faultless lap of South Island in her. Clare and Rowan are professional yet extremely friendly, nothing we asked for was too much for them. Was like hiring from a small independent business where customer satisfaction is the highest priority. They even helped with our plans, offering tips on things to see and fantastic vamping spots that are off the beaten track. Everything in the van was great, we literally had everything we needed to cook and live with. The camping chairs and table made for a great setup for evening sat out looking at the view. The bed in Zara is likely more comfortable than what you have at home, not joking. The fridge was perfect and plenty big enough. When we were there the temps were near perfect, we had one night that was a little hot so we deployed the awesome roof fan/vent to keep things cooler. We also had one morning which was a little chilly, for that the diesel heater was warming us up in minutes. The van is easy to drive and has good power for all the steep climbs. There's plenty of USB charging points throughout and a hookup for your tunes. You can tell how much time, effort and passion has gone into Zara to make her a wonderful van. It's lovely to drive around as an incognito tourist too, the rest of us tourists stick out like a sore thumb in the branded up white whales you see crawling around the island!! Cannot recommend highly enough 11/10
