Campervan hire across New Zealand

A full New Zealand car licence is enough for campervan hire on Camplify, and most campervans are automatic. Australian and UK licences are accepted as well. An overseas licence is fine if it is in English; if it is not, carry an English translation or an International Driving Permit alongside it. A foreign licence is generally valid here for up to 12 months.

Campervans on Camplify are set up for two, with a proper bed rather than a fold-out afterthought, a small kitchen for cooking, and storage for a long trip's gear. You book the Cook Strait crossing yourself, between Wellington and Picton. The owner gives you the van's registration, height and length so you can book the right vehicle space, and a Picton handover off the ferry is common. Ferries fill up over summer, so book the crossing early once your dates are set.

Auckland is the main gateway, with Christchurch and Queenstown also popular, and some owners offer airport pickup. A one-way trip, say Auckland in and Queenstown out, comes down to the individual owner rather than being a set platform feature, so message a few owners with your plan.
