Camplify is New Zealand's largest community of campervan owners hiring out their own vans. That means more choice in more towns, real vans with real reviews, and an owner who actually knows the van and the route you are heading down.
Browse compact two-berth campervans through to roomier models, from Auckland down through Canterbury and Otago. Filter by your pickup town and your dates and book the one that fits in a few minutes.
A full New Zealand licence covers you, and most campervans are automatic. Australian and UK licences are accepted too, and an overseas licence is fine if it is in English or comes with an English translation.
Every Camplify booking includes protection as standard, with the option to reduce your excess, plus 24/7 roadside assistance. A refundable security deposit is shown on the booking summary before you pay, so there are no surprises.
Owners set their own daily rate, and many add weekly or longer-stay discounts that apply automatically when you choose your dates. What you see on the booking screen is what you pay.
Live listings of campervans across New Zealand, from compact two-berth vans to roomier models with a proper kitchen and bed. Browse the full range with the campervan filter.

The long summer road trip
Ten days, two of you, and the whole length of the South Island to wander down. Tekapo to Mount Cook to Wanaka to Queenstown, stopping wherever the view earns it. A two-berth campervan turns the drive into the holiday.

Bring the dog
Plenty of the campervans on Camplify are pet-friendly, so the dog comes too. No kennel, no guilt, just a co-pilot who is thrilled to be along for the ride.

A campervan turns the drive into the holiday. You wake up where you parked, make coffee with the side door open to the view, and decide over breakfast whether to move on or stay another night. Most Camplify campervan trips in New Zealand run about ten days, and the best ones rarely go to plan.
If your van is certified self-contained, freedom camping opens up a whole second country: hundreds of free DOC sites by lakes, rivers and the coast, well off the main road. The rest of the time a powered site at a holiday park gives you a hot shower and a camp kitchen whenever you want one. For two people, that mix is the sweet spot.

The campervans on Camplify belong to people who travel in them themselves, so a pickup often comes with more than the keys. The quiet swimming spot a short walk past the famous one. The early drive into Milford that beats the coaches. The Omarama hot tubs worth the detour, and the lookout to aim for at sunset. Plenty of owners will send you the spots they come back to year after year.
Their vans are built for real trips, too. Solar that keeps the fridge and the lights running all day means you can pull up self-contained for a night between parks and wake up somewhere with the place to yourselves. Message the owner on the Camplify app with your dates and ask where they would go; the answer comes from someone who has parked that exact van at that exact lake.
Find a campervan and message the ownerWhat licence do I need for campervan hire in NZ?
A full New Zealand car licence is enough for campervan hire on Camplify, and most campervans are automatic. Australian and UK licences are accepted as well. An overseas licence is fine if it is in English; if it is not, carry an English translation or an International Driving Permit alongside it. A foreign licence is generally valid here for up to 12 months.
How old do I need to be, and is there an age surcharge?
Owners set their own minimum age, usually 21 and over, and some vans are 25 and over. Younger drivers may pay a small added excess. Our guide to campervan hire under 25 walks through what to expect, and each listing shows the owner's age terms before you book.
Is a campervan comfortable for two?
Campervans on Camplify are set up for two, with a proper bed rather than a fold-out afterthought, a small kitchen for cooking, and storage for a long trip's gear. Many have a toilet on board; for showers, most travellers use the facilities at holiday parks. The interior photos on every listing show exactly what you are getting, so you can picture the space before you book.
What protection comes with the campervan?
Every Camplify booking includes protection as standard. You can reduce your excess for extra peace of mind, and 24/7 roadside assistance is there if something goes wrong on the road. A refundable security deposit applies and is shown on the booking summary before you pay. The cover is built into your booking through Camplify's own protection, so it is sorted for you.
Can I drive on unsealed or gravel roads?
Standard campervans are built for sealed roads, and the protection cover does not extend beyond short gravel distances of around ten kilometres. Some of the best Otago and West Coast spots sit at the end of gravel, so plan those legs with the owner first, or choose a van the owner lists as suited to it.
What about the Cook Strait ferry between the islands?
You book the Cook Strait crossing yourself, between Wellington and Picton. The owner gives you the van's registration, height and length so you can book the right vehicle space, and a Picton handover off the ferry is common. Ferries fill up over summer, so book the crossing early once your dates are set.
I am flying in from overseas. Can I pick up at the airport and drop off elsewhere?
Auckland is the main gateway, with Christchurch and Queenstown also popular, and some owners offer airport pickup. A one-way trip, say Auckland in and Queenstown out, comes down to the individual owner rather than being a set platform feature, so message a few owners with your plan. Our pages for visitors from the USA and the United Kingdom cover flying in and getting on the road.
What does self-contained mean, and why does it matter?
A certified self-contained campervan carries its own water and waste for a few days, which lets you legally freedom camp at hundreds of free Department of Conservation sites. Enforcement has tightened, so the certification is what unlocks those spots. Our best DOC campsites guide shows where a self-contained van can take you.
How does campervan hire on Camplify actually work?
Search campervan hire by your pickup town and dates, send the owner an enquiry or request to book, and pay a deposit to confirm. You meet the owner at pickup for a quick handover and licence check, then the van is yours for the trip. Everything, including messages, runs through the Camplify app.
It is our first campervan trip. Where should we start?
Our guide to how to use a campervan in NZ walks through the basics, from picking up the van to where you can stay. A two-berth van and a shorter loop close to your pickup town is the easiest way to find your feet before a bigger South Island trip.
