We handcrafted the van for our own use, so we there are no compromises made anywhere in the van. It's not just what you see in the glossy photos, it's everything hidden that an experienced camper would notice. The insulation, the diesel heater, the large solar panels, the memory foam mattress, the wall linings; just to name a few. Our camper is big enough to be comfortable and well-equipped but still, be small enough to be nimble and easy to drive. Large motorhomes are fine for some, but we don’t see the need to have a whole house on wheels. Equally, small vans are ok for others, but there are many small vehicles in NZ that we think are too small for an enjoyable experience. Cooking outside may look ok on a nice day, but cooking outside during cold rain isn’t. We have a small toilet room and a roofbox for extra storage. We think our van is not too big, not too small, but just right! We live close to Christchurch Airport, which makes pick-up and drop-off very easy. Andrew & Deb ** Please note that the vehicle is Diesel, and in NZ, there is a Road User Charge (RUC) for every km a diesel vehicle travels. The mileage will be passed onto you at $0.09/km which equates to $90/1000km. ** Please note that we strongly encourage you to pay the additional insurance option to minimise your excess. Although this does cost more, it is probably an accurate reflection of the risk with people driving a slightly larger vehicle they are unfamiliar with. We have only done a small number of hires we have had a few trips to the panel beaters. Should the unfortunate happen, it is much more palatable for everyone to have a $500 excess rather than a $3000 excess. Sorry for the 'small print' ;-)

Pricing

Hire Fee: From $250.00 per day
Service fee: $80.00

Cancellations

Strict

Cancel earlier than 45 days before the start of the booking and receive a full credit. Refunds available upon request (less any admin fees) and may take up to 30 days to process.
Cancel between 45 and 20 days before the start of booking and receive a 90% credit. Booking fees will not be credited.
Cancellations less than 20 days before the start of booking will not be eligible for any credit or refund.

Absolutely loved our time in Perch. The van is even better in person and is so comfortable for a longer trip with plenty of storage space for supplies and clothing. We just loved freedom camping through the South Island, wished we had another couple weeks. Andrew was so friendly and great and made renting a breeze. Van is really close to the airport so pickup is a breeze with a cheap Uber. Cant recommend highly enough!

Perch was amazing! We had a really nice time (3,5 weeks) and this camper made the trip more special! The bed is really comfy, driving is really easy and we loved the interior. Special thanks to the owners! Andrew and his wife were very kind and helpfull. Do not look any further, choose Perch! :)

Perch was the perfect van for our trip around South Island. We even had a number of admirers from others who had booked vans from the big hire companies as Perch is better laid out and much more thought through and better finish than those vans. Andrew has done a fab job at kitting it out including all the small things (e.g. washing powder, Bluetooth speaker etc). Andrew was super easy to communicate with and talked us through everything when we arrived. We just want to do it trip all over again now! 10 out of 10 for Perch, would book again!

We had a fantastic time for 3 weeks in Andrew's van touring the south island. The van was perfect, Andrew has thought of every detail you will need in the design of the van. The cooking equipment is great, the bed and seating area are comfy and so easy to put together. Andrew himself was a great owner, we knew everything we needed to know about the van, had videos in case we forgot anything and we knew Andrew was on hand if we ran into any problems. Have recommended the van to lots of friends planning a trip over to New Zealand and we are so happy we found this van for ours! :)

Highly recommend! The van was easy to drive and was very reliable. It was spacious and lots of room isndie, with everything you need. Andrew and his wife were great and always quick to respond if we needed anything. I will definitely be using them again if I ever come back to NZ. Thank you for a great holiday!
