Meet Āmio – your adventure-ready luxury home on wheels. "Āmio" means to roam in te reo Māori — and roam you will, in comfort and style. Built in 2023 on a modern Ford Transit chassis, this spacious, Italian-designed motorhome is perfect for exploring New Zealand’s wild beauty. Smooth to drive, fuel efficient, and loaded with safety features, she’s ideal for winding alpine roads, coastal highways, or remote freedom camping spots. Whether you’re a family looking to unplug and reconnect, or a couple of mates chasing trails, waves, or snow, Āmio has the space and comfort to make life on the road feel effortless. You’ve got three permanent beds ready to go, so there’s no need to pack away the living space when it’s time to crash for the night. Up front, there’s a spacious king-size bed over the cab. At the rear, you’ll find a double bunk and a king single bunk. And if you need more sleeping space, the dinette converts into a king single or a kids’ double. All the main beds come with luxurious foam toppers and down duvets for a cosy sleep — even when you’re up in the mountains. Got kids? There’s loads of room for board games, movie nights, and afternoon naps. With a smartTv and a bevvy of board games, we have your bad weather days and downtime covered. Only four of you and bringing gear? Don’t stress. Āmio’s rear bunk folds away to reveal a massive garage space (1.2m x 1.4m x 2.15m), perfect for bikes, golfclubs, surfboards, fishing gear, wetsuits, boots, backpacks — whatever you’re hauling. If you don't require the bottom bunk, then there’s no need to pack light. After a big day out, coming back to Āmio feels like home. The full kitchen features a 3-burner gas hob, oven/grill and a 140L fridge/freezer with a handy drinks drawer. All cookware, utensils and kitchen essentials are included. When the sun’s shining, fire up the outdoor BBQ and enjoy casual summer dinners under the stars. The huge 4.3m x 2.2m awning gives you extra space to cook, chill, or just take in the view, whatever the weather’s doing. Nothing beats a hot shower after a long hike or a day on the slopes. Āmio has a separate shower and toilet with great water pressure. When the temperature drops, diesel or electric ducted heating keeps the van warm and dries out your gear. Curtains throughout add extra warmth and privacy. And yes, freedom camping is totally on the cards. Āmio is fully self-contained, meaning you can wake up by a lake, on a quiet beach, or under a sky full of stars — no campground required. She comes equipped with a 100L fresh water tank, a 120L grey water tank, and USB charging ports throughout, powered by the vehicle battery — perfect for phones, cameras, or keeping the kids devices powered up! Āmio is based in Queenstown, just 10 minutes from the airport. You can fly in direct from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch — or internationally from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast. Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand, and the perfect place to kick off your journey. From world-class skiing, biking, hiking, and kayaking to epic road trips and family fun, it’s the ultimate launchpad for a South Island loop or a full NZ adventure. Don’t just visit New Zealand — live it. Pack your bags, chase the horizon, and hit the road with Āmio.

Additional information

A Few Things to Help Us Get You Sorted When you're ready to book, just let us know your preferred pick-up time and location — we’re happy to be flexible where we can and it’s often possible for us to pick you up from Queenstown Airport and bring you straight to Āmio to get your trip underway. Linen is all provided, but we’ll need to know how many of you are coming and which bed setup you’d prefer. We include bath towels for everyone, but if you’re planning beach or lake swims (which you should!), please pack a beach towel too. You can easily buy these en route and take them home as a handy souvenir. The handover takes around an hour — we’ll walk you through everything so you feel totally at home behind the wheel and know how to use all the systems. To get a head start, check out this handy intro video to the Zefiro 675: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szEt7w1etNY&t=113s There’s loads of storage in the van, but we strongly recommend packing into soft duffel-style bags instead of suitcases — they’re way easier to stow away. If you’re not using the bottom bunk, the space underneath becomes a roomy garage, perfect for your luggage and gear. Pro tip: packing cells make life on the road so much easier — they keep your stuff tidy and easy to find. And lastly, if you’d like to bring bikes along, just let us know ahead of time and we’ll fit the bike rack for you (we usually leave it off unless requested).

Hiring rules

  • The Chill Guide to PickUp, DropOff & Van Life
  • Just let us know your plans and we’ll sort out pickup and dropoff times that work for you. Easy!
  • No smoking or vaping inside or near the van, please — we want to keep Āmio fresh and comfy for everyone.
  • Got a furry mate? Pets might be cool — just ask us first so we can make sure it’s a good fit.
  • If you’re under 25 and keen to drive, get in touch. We might be able to tweak the insurance so you’re covered.
  • We ask for a 7 or 14day minimum hire to make the most of your trip. Thinking longer? Chat with us about rates for 4 weeks or more. One way hires are possible by arrangement.
  • Please stick to sealed roads only — we want to keep Āmio in top shape for your adventures.
  • Please put the awning away carefully, BEFORE bad weather hits.
  • When you bring her back, a tidy van with the toilet and grey water tanks emptied is appreciated. Please clean out the fridge and clean up the kitchen. This makes our life so much easier and we thank you for it. Failure to do this will result in a cleaning fee.
  • Road user charges are applied to all diesel vehicles in New Zealand. These will be charged at 9c per kilometre and will be calculated on return.
  • Mileage includes up to 200km per day (averaged) over your hire. Doing big distances in a short timeframe? Extra kms over 200/day will be charged at 50c per km.
  • Please return the van full of diesel. Don’t worry about the gas bottle — we’ll handle that.
  • Please report any damage immediately. This helps us set up repairs quickly, order any parts, etc, so that our following booking are not inconvenienced.
  • Got any questions or something pops up? Just give me a call or message anytime — we’re here to help!
  • Hirer must be 25 years of age or older.

Cheers Billy and Charlie! Great to meet yourselves and your parents. Glad you guys had a fantastic time touring the South Island in Amio. Thanks for taking such good care of the camper and returning it in such a clean state. It was a pleasure dealing with you and we can thoroughly recommend you as hirers to any other owners.

We hired this motorhome for 10days for 2 adults and a toddler. From the very beginning Chris and Kelly have been so incredible. The helped me plan out a few places to go over the chat even before our trip. When we arrived they met us at a location that suited us. Very easy going and helpful when it came to tips and tricks with the motorhome. The motorhome itself was the best way for us to travel with our 2year old. Very new, low kms, which made me have confidence in the safety features. It came with all the linen, towels, bbq, chairs etc. They even left some kids books and cars for our son to play with. I cannot recommend these guys enough. Ill definitely be going through them again if and when I come back. Thank you so very much for helping us create the family trip of a lifetime.

5 of us (4 adults and one 14 years old) travelled the South island for 2 weeks with this campervan and had so much fun during the early January 2026. The owners are very friendly, helpful and thorough. They picked us up from the Queenstown airport and dropped us at the same on our way back to Australia. They have thought of everything and provided us with plenty of kitchen equipment, Gas BBQ and outdoor chairs and table. We travelled almost 75% of the South Island and experienced the beautiful sceneries this island has to offer. Chris and Kelly were very resourceful and gave us great tips about the locations. They are prompt with their communication and assisted by phone calls whenever needed. This campervan is almost new and gave us no trouble at all. If we travel back to South Island again to see the rest of it, we will definitely hire this campervan. We couldn't find a better campervan and owners if we tried so they are highly recommended. I hope we see them again either in Australia or New Zealand.
