And what is The Luxury?; I build up the wood burner at the ski field —- nothing better than coming back to a cozy cabin and have lunch in front of the fire —- kettle singing away on the stove top. ( Snow chain hire at $10/day); And at nights—- keep the fire burning: snug !You are not tied to the next camping ground !: Fully self- contained registered vehicle. Solar power. Flushing loo. Gas-warmed shower. Gas-heated shower. Fresh water tank lasts you ( on the average) 5--7 days. Wood-burner stove for that extra comfort and also great for cooking. This is REAL FREEDOM camping.!! The van for all seasons! Why " Taka Touring"? " Taka" is a Maori word for " to travel in a random, unplanned way"; the Germans might say " on the bummel" and the English "to ramble". My dear old hound, Taka, shared the journeys with me for many years---he had a good nose for out of the way camp spots. He was my navigator. Open and cool for the summer months; warm and cozy beside the wood- burner fire in the cooler months. Personally, I just love it when the winter is approaching and I have the flickering of living flames in the stove. Then, there's the real Freedom of not being tied down to " the next campground": Just set up the solar panels and there's all the energy you need for daily living: living made easy with that extra space of the tent canopy and so much storage below and above that you will need another box for souvenirs. The interior is homely: I made this bus to match my love of everything natural: lined throughout with oiled wood, it feels a bit like living in a remote forest cabin out in the wilds where there is evidence of crafted construction in every corner instead of cold formica and steel. The double bed of fitted latex rubber cushions and natural organic linen sheets is a luxury for a good sleep (but will be a tad short for professional basket ballers). If you want, you can adjust the cushions to form an extra seat for dining at the fully adjustable dining table and to make a " lounge room structure" if you want more dining space for inviting new friends to join you. There is a safety gas hobs and sink (running water) installation in the natural walnut wood kitchen bench. A flushing toilet ( cassette needs an empty at a council waste station approx every week) and my favorite --- an outside hot ( gas) shower which I love using under the stars ( but there is also a roll-down canopy if you feel a bit shy). The wood-burner stove is already mentioned. We will supply you with a couple of boxes of wood after which you can scavenge in the bush and drift wood from the beaches; there is a bow-saw and hatchet to help you . The vehicle has a well- stocked larder and a convenient sized fridge. When parked up, clothing can be hung on convenient rails in the fore- and aft- cabins or stored in the baskets in the loft. There is an extra bunk bed at the rear which is great for chilling out on with the rear double doors open to the view. When my daughter and her fiance toured in the bus, they used this rear cabin bed for their big suitcase and just lived out of that --- a short grab away. The bus itself is cruisy to drive. Diesel. Manual gears. Reversing camera. It likes to drive at around 90kph --- a nice, unhurried--let's enjoy this sort of speed. We have written an " operations manual" which provides you with a guide for all the things you might need---- from refilling water to adjusting the bed into a couch. Oh! And for a rainy day, there's the library with a wide variety of literature; grab some cushions, light the fire, relax back and enjoy!
