Caravan hire across New Zealand

A full New Zealand car licence covers towing most caravans, as long as the combined weight of your vehicle and the van stays within your licence and vehicle limits. Australian and UK licences are accepted too, and an overseas licence is fine if it is in English or comes with an English translation. If the owner delivers the van, no towing licence question arises at all. The owner can confirm the van's weight for you.

Then have it delivered. Many caravan owners on Camplify will tow the van to your holiday park or campsite, level it and set it up, and collect it at the end, so you never need a tow vehicle and never touch a tow bar. Use the delivered caravans filter and confirm the delivery fee and distance with the owner before you book.

If you would rather collect the caravan, you need a vehicle with enough towing capacity for the van's loaded weight, a brake controller and towing mirrors. The owner walks you through hitching, brakes and load at pickup. If you have never towed, or simply do not want to, choosing a delivered caravan skips it entirely.

If your trip needs gravel or remote sites, choose a caravan the owner lists as suited to it and confirm the plan with them first, or have the owner deliver it to the site for you.

Freedom camping rules favour certified self-contained vehicles, and many free Department of Conservation sites do not suit a towed caravan. Caravan hire NZ on Camplify is simple: search by your pickup town and dates, send the owner a request to book, and pay a deposit to confirm.
