8 fun camp games for large groups in NZ
)
Whether you’re exploring the great outdoors with friends or have brought the kids along for a family holiday, camping getaways are a great way to bond and spend some quality time together. Of course, they also come with plenty of downtime between adventures, so that you can relax, recharge and get ready to see the sights. Looking for some great ways to keep the troop entertained back at base? Below, we share the ultimate list of fun camp games for large groups for you to check out.
8 fun camp games for large groups
1. Scavenger Hunt

If you’re looking for fun camp games for large groups, then this one ticks all the boxes. There’s nothing like a good old scavenger hunt to keep everyone entertained! Break your group up into teams, with a good mixture of young and old, and hand everyone the same list of items to find. Team to complete the list first, wins! Simple.
You can make it harder by setting tasks instead of having items to find. For example, “Climb a tree”. Put someone in the group in charge of taking photos as you go, so once all parties return, you can have some fun looking through the photos together.
You can find plenty of free printables online to help you out.
2. Camping Alphabet Game
Depending how big your group is, you can split off into smaller teams or play this together. Start by choosing a category. It can relate to camping, or even to the sights you’re making your way around! Some examples include:
Camping food
Camping songs
New Zealand animals
Take it in turns to say something related to that category starting with the letter ‘A’. Keep going and work your way through the alphabet. The first person who can’t come up with something (you can pop a time limit on it), is the loser and gains a point.
Choose a new category and start again.
3. Stuck in the mud

Another great game if you’re hoping to stretch those legs and have a little run around after a long day driving. Both big kids and little kids alike will get a kick out of this one!
One person is picked to be in. They go around and catch people. Once tipped, you have to stand frozen with your legs apart - stuck in the mud! The only way you can get free is if one of your team members crawls under your legs to help you escape. The game ends if everyone gets stuck!
4. Charades

It’s an oldie, but a goodie - and one of the most fun camp games for large groups. In fact, charades is even more fun when you’re sitting around a campfire with a group of friends! You can keep it all related to camping and have a good laugh watching everyone have a go at acting them out!
The concept is simple. Split into two teams. Cut up this printable, or choose another from Pinterestthat takes your fancy - there are plenty! Pop the ideas into a hat. One player at a time takes it in turns to draw a piece of paper from the hat. They then have to act it out without saying a word to their team. If their team guesses correctly in time, they get a point! If not, no points are given. Now it’s the next team’s turn.
5. Campfire stories

While we’re looking at traditional games, you can’t look past the old faithful campfire stories. No need to pop the torch under your face and try and scare the littlies, just make it fun!
Let everyone have a go. They can tell a true story about their day at school the previous week, or make up something completely imaginary. It’s a great way to connect with everyone and enjoy some quality time together.
Feeling a little stuck? These story promptersare a great way to get the imagination flowing.
6. Cards Against Humanity
And now it’s onto card games around the camping table (because fun camp games for large groups don’t have to involve physical activity - especially if you’ve just spent the day out exploring the great outdoors!).
If you have never played this game, you’re in for a treat – and a good belly laugh too. But firstly note, this is definitely an adults only game and not one to play with the kids in earshot. Each round a player asks a question from the black deck. Everyone picks a white card from their hand in an attempt to offer up the funniest (and most inappropriate) answer.
The winner: the person who submits the most cards with the funniest answers! Not PG rated, that’s for sure.

7. Apples to Apples
Travelling with kids in tow? Ditch Cards Against Humanity and instead, opt for something a little more PG-rated. Apples to Applies is the perfect choice if you’re looking to play a card game for all ages.
It’s similar to the game above – just much more appropriate! No life conversations happening over the campfire at night. An adjective card is placed down on the table, everyone (except the judge) plays one of their noun cards. Again – the aim is to be funny! The judge gets to pick their favourite from the bunch.

8. Glow in the dark ring toss

Feeling like a camping game that’s a little more active? If you’ve had a day in the motorhome travelling to your destination, you might be looking to get up and move a little.
To play glow in the dark ring toss, all you need is a couple of empty water bottles and some glow sticks. Pop a glow stick into each bottle so that you can see it in the dark. Now create rings out of the remaining glow sticks - you can do this with the connectors that come in the packet.
Take it in turns to throw! One point for every ring that lands around the water bottle, with a winner to be crowned at the end.
