1. Greytown Campground
Greytown, Wairarapa 5712, New Zealand | From $17 per night
Get back to nature and enjoy the serenity of this beautiful campsite. It’s one of the most peaceful campgrounds in Wairarapa, with plenty of walks nearby to immerse yourself in the great outdoors! You can also check out the local wineries or take off on a cycle trail through the countryside.
This Wairarapa campground is centrally located, too. Enjoy a giant playground for the kids next door, along with a public swimming pool (that’s free of charge!) and tennis courts for a hit. Just a 500 metre stroll down the road, you’ll find a lovely cafe and a row of charming shops to browse.
At the campsite, there are two amenity blocks with kitchens with a shared dining, fridges, freezers, toilets and showers.
2. Kiriwhakapapa Campsite
596 Kiriwhakapapa Road, Kiriwhakapapa 5881, New Zealand | Adult (18+ years): $10 per night, Child (5–17 years): $5 per night, Infant (0–4 years): free
Located in Tararua Forest Park in the Wairarapa region, Kiriwhakapapa Campsite is a family campsite perched on a creek. Take a dip on a warm day just steps away from camp! It’s also a great spot to pull on those walking shoes and to take off on the Kiriwhakapapa Loop Track (1 hour) or climb up to Blue Range Hut (2 hours one way).
This Wairarapa campground has some basic facilities to take advantage of during your stay, including a fire pit for campfires (and roasting marshmallows!), flush toilets, water from a stream, and shelter for cooking.
3. Putangirua Pinnacles Campsite

Putangirua Pinnacles Campsite is situated beside the Putangirua Stream with stunning views of Cook Strait. This is the perfect base to trek off to the Putangirua Pinnacles - follow the Pinnacles Walking Track for some spectacular views. You can also jump in your campervan and drive to the seal colony near Cape Palliser lighthouse.
Settle in for a quiet night with a fire pit reading for roasting, along with flush toilets and water from a stream. Marvel at your surroundings as you relax back after a busy day exploring the wilderness. There’s even a pebbly beach across the road where you can wander off and take a paddle if the weather allows. 4. Waiohine Camping

Looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life? Waiohine Camping is a peaceful, remote campsite that sits at the head of two incredible gorges just above the Waiohine River.
Spend your days splashing about in the water or testing out your adventurous side with some rafting, canoeing and more.
The campsite itself is equipped with a fire pit so you can relax back in warmth and comfort while soaking up the surrounding views. You’ll also find flush toilets and water from a tap.
5. Morrisons Bush Camp Ground

Escape the popular tourist sites and settle back at this secluded campground in the Wairarapa region. Situated right on the riverfront, you can take a splash in the warmer weather and enjoy the shade of the nearby trees.
This tranquil spot is completely off the grid, so you can really enjoy the serenity of the New Zealand bushland. There’s also plenty of space to pull up in your van and set up camp!
Of course, with tranquillity comes little in the way of amenities. There are no toilets, showers or taps on site, but you can wash in the nearby river if needs be.
