Trudie

Our lovely Trudie has helped our family make some wonderful, fun-filled memories, and we hope she’ll do the same for you. SLEEPING Trudie sleeps two adults and two pre-teen kids comfortably. The dining/lounge area converts to a double bed, and there is another double bed in the curtained loft area. The loft area is ideal for children or a single adult, but it would also fit two average-sized adults at a squeeze. Bedding is included if required. SELF-CONTAINMENT A current green self-containment certificate means you have the choice of staying at fully serviced commercial campgrounds through to freedom camping in remote middle-of-nowhere spots, allowing you to overnight in some truly special locations. A solar panel, back-up batteries, and a 3-way fridge means you can have power for multiple nights in a single off-grid location. The kitchen has a four-element gas hob, a small fridge with a little freezer compartment, cookware, and tableware. The bathroom has a hand basin and a shower over the toilet. An excellent heater on a thermostat is fitted, keeping the living/sleeping area comfortably snug, even in sub-zero temperatures. STORAGE Our family of four have found sufficient storage for our clothes, footwear, towels, books, schoolwork, card games, outdoor games, laptops, snow clothes, fishing gear, food, toiletries, little treasures we collect on our travels, and more. DRIVING Trudie has a manual (stick) transmission. We’ve found her easy to drive, even for someone unused to large vehicles. She’s a gentle old girl who takes her time, especially up hills, but we’ve found her reliable. The cab seats one passenger along with the driver, and there is internal access through to the rear of the motorhome (great for rainy weather!). There are four seat belts in the lounge area (useful if a parent wants/needs to hang with the kids), two of which are forward-facing, surrounded by nice big windows. We’ve found we’re much less likely to experience travel sickness while travelling in Trudie than we would in a car. PICK-UP Pick up is in Pirongia, 25 minutes south of Hamilton. Drop-off is usually available by arrangement (with a possible fee to cover transport costs) to Hamilton Airport, other nearby locations, or Auckland Airport. We love our travels with Trudie.
