Annie is certainly decent value for money. The setup is certainly a DIY budget build but it gets the job done.

It was a truly satisfying and very practical way to enjoy the wonderful Southern inlets of the Otago peninsula, with its narrow, winding roads and tight turning bays. Then if anything even better for exploring the Catlins, which we enjoyed even more than we expected. If camping in rainy weather, consider taking a tarp you can tape to the rear hatch when it's raised, to hang down and block one or both sides, providing side screening if the wind is not always from dead ahead. The owners of the unit were friendly and helpful and the camper was extremely well equipped. The fridge and solar power combo in particular was brilliant, and I thought the cabinet size was just spot on for two people. Storage was plentiful and particularly well thought out. If you're not a couple, and your vehicle has rear seats which fold flat, consider taking a mattress so one can sleep in the back of the towing vehicle. This leaves a palatial space in the camper for the other, and eliminates the need for gymnastics if the sleeper furthest from the door needs to exit for a pee. We initially started the trip with a Leone (iconic 70's Subaru "Touring Wagon") and although it has proper, traditional (ie, not Full Time") 4WD, the vehicle was not heavy enough, and/or the rear overhang was not short enough, to cope with the considerable tongue weight of Murray. We were lucky enough to have a friend happy to lend us his Hyundai Santa Fe to make the trip, which was perfect, and the van followed impeccably from then on.

We had just the most awesome adventure with Annie! We did quite a few KMs around the lower South Island and love the freedom of being self contained meant we could find a place to camp wherever it got dark! The bed was comfy and the van had everything we needed. 10/10 recommend Thanks Happy Hideout!
