Most unique caravans South Island NZ: special vans

Camplify
Vintage caravan parked up; South Island mountains in the background. Keen for a roadie!

We’ve covered the North Island… now it’s time for the South. Like its counterpart, New Zealand’s South Island is a perfect setting for a holiday on the road, full of breathtaking scenery and opportunities for adventure. Hire a New Zealand rental caravan for an on-the-road holiday combined with the comforts of home, in one of Camplify’s South Island caravans for hire.

As the biggest and fastest-growing campervan, motorhome and caravan sharing community in New Zealand, we have plenty of vans to pick from. Here we share our most unique caravans on the country’s South Island, all available to hire on Camplify now.

NZ4u2u, Christchurch

An unusual hire caravan listing is one where you can take your pick of vehicles… and hire the van for a long-term holiday too. The team who own NZ4u2u’s fleet, shown here in a Pegasus GT70, have set up listings so customers have a wide choice of caravans to start their ideal caravan holiday. These vans are all-new, fitted out to very high standards, and come with a kitchen and bathroom. A nice touch is that the caravans are all self-contained certified and have solar panels, so you can freedom camp in comfort if that’s what you prefer. But if you’d rather stay at a caravan park, all these vans come with power cables for electric hook-up too.

Crucially for less experienced or less confident caravanners, this van and the rest of the fleet are light and easy to tow.

Brimar, Waikuku Beach

Go east from Christchurch and to Waikuku Beach to rent another distinctive van, this one a 2013 Swift Sprite Quattro. Like the NZ4u2u caravan above, Brimar is set up as a fully self-contained van, so you can opt to stay on caravan parks or have a one-of-a-kind holiday setting up in remote and secluded locations.

This standout caravan is heated and insulated, so comfortable enough to use for a winter getaway. It comes with all you need for holidays for up to six people, including an annex, a bathroom, kitchen, dining area, TV, stereo, external gas barbecue, solar panel and roof light.

Bailey Pegasus, Temuka

Our final quirky caravan is this four-berth 2011 Bailey Pegasus near Canterbury. It might look like a standard caravan from the outside, but this is a van for foodie adventurers as it has a full-sized oven and well-equipped kitchen for all culinary needs. (We reckon this van would be a winner for a New Zealand Christmas caravan holiday: turkey dinner on the beach, anyone? And you won’t have far to drive to reach the waves, as the Bailey Pegasus is based near Temuka and Canterbury Bight.)

As well as the kitchen and full-sized oven, this caravan has a coffee machine and a microwave, plus a barbecue, table and chairs for outdoor dining, and a fridge and freezer to store your shopping. Cutlery and plates are provided too.
