Located 11.5km north of Waitara, Onaero Bay Holiday Park is surrounded on both sides by Onaero River with plenty of native bush to explore. One of the most scenic Taranaki camping grounds, it is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
There’s plenty to keep you busy during the day, too, including trekking to the stunning Mt Taranaki, or simply taking a wander to explore the beauty of Egmont National Park. You can also stroll through art trails, museums, galleries and more!
At the campsite, you will find two amenities blocks with hot showers and flushing toilets, laundry facilities, a waste station and even a playground for little people to run around.
2. Opunake Beach Holiday Park

Opunake is a small town on the coast of Taranaki, offering up some incredible views of the coastline, along with the prominent Mt Taranaki. Opunake Beach Holiday Park is located right next to the beach in a calm, sheltered bay, making it the ideal spot to jump in the water to enjoy a paddle.
Whether you’re hoping to get active or simply laze back on the beach, there’s plenty to do. Head off to the community baths from September to April for a relaxing soak, take a coastal walk along Great Opunake Walkway, or get a little culture in with a walk to Opunake Mural Trail with more than 20 murals showing historic images and contemporary art.
The park is well-equipped with everything you need for your stay. Enjoy guest laundry, BBQ and picnic tables, dump station, onsite camp shop, kitchen, bathroom and a children’s playground complete with a toddler swimming pool.
3. Kaupokonui Beach Camp

Kaupokonui Beach is a serene spot to spend your days and one of our favourite Taranaki camping grounds! Make the most of a children’s play area, a river for swimming and a surf beach right on your doorstep each morning. Enjoy a day of fishing and white baiting in season, head to the sand dunes to explore the beach or even get the adrenaline pumping with some hang gliding.
The camp has everything you need, with two kitchens on either side of the campground, equipped with plenty of appliances. There are ablution blocks with hot showers, laundry and even a shop selling your basics.
4. Belt Road Seaside Holiday Park

Located on the idyllic Coastal Walkway, this New Plymouth holiday park has so much to see and do just minutes away. Owned and run by locals Peter and Anna and John and Jan Crawford, you’ll feel right at home at this welcoming Taranaki camping ground.
In its elevated position, you can see right across the Tasman Sea, serving up spectacular views. Spend your days strolling down the New Plymouth Coastal Walkway, checking out the nearby Pukekura Park, or experiencing the Maori culture at Puke Ariki. There’s also the Tawhiti Museum and Traders & Whalers, and even Pouakai Zoo for a fun day out.
