Situated in Marlborough, Havelock Holiday Park is the perfect family-friendly accommodation! This scenic spot is surrounded by easy walking trails, cycling tracks and waterways, plus plenty of wineries for the parents. During your stay, explore the world-renowned Marlborough Sounds by boat, kayak or bike. There are also a number of day trips to keep the tribe busy, including Blenheim, which is known as the gateway to the wineries of Wairau Valley, and Nelson, known for its art and craft stores and art galleries.

This is one of our favourite family campgrounds, as it isn’t just kid-friendly - pets are welcome too! There’s a great outdoor playground for little ones to blow off a little steam each day, as well as an outdoor gym for the adults. 4. Port Waikato Holiday Park

Head over to the North Island and explore Waikato from the Port Waikato Holiday Park. This is one of our favourite family campgrounds in New Zealand, offering a quiet oasis where the Waikato River meets the Tasman Sea.

Just one hour from Auckland airport for easy travel, this holiday park is also close to all sorts of wonders. Entertain the whole family at the Nikau Glowworm Cave, Close Encounters Farm Experience and nearby farmers markets!

The campsite itself is fully equipped and offers up a kitchen, BBQ, showers, laundry, along with a playground for kids to run wild, and trike hire to exhaust them at the end of a busy day seeing the sights.

5. Treasure Island Camping and Campground

Get ready to hit the adventure playground running (alongside the kids) at one of our favourite family road trip destinations. Treasure Island Camping and Campground is set up for families, with the longest slide in the North for those who dare and a children’s activity program that is guaranteed to keep them nice and busy!

Located at Pataua South, the park was originally an island before it joined and became possible to drive across. There’s a great lagoon onsite for the kids to splash around, with two golden beaches to choose from.

This park has so much to offer with volleyball and table tennis, barista-made coffee (you read that right!), a shop and takeaway onsite. With plenty of facilities for a comfortable stay and beautiful spots nearby, there’s no denying this is one of our favourite family campgrounds in New Zealand!

6. Amber Kiwi Holiday Park

In fact, they are Christchurch’s closest holiday park to the CBD, with a public bus leaving from outside their gate for easy access to all the sights! Head off to discover Canterbury Museum, Christchurch Adventure Park, Adrenalin Forest, Gondola, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve and so much more from the town centre.

Their park is also home to two communal kitchens, a laundry, television room, BBQ area, and more. Kids can enjoy the children’s play area, and you can even get a car wash during your stay so you have one less thing to worry about.

A firm favourite for families, Okains Bay Camping Ground is located in the stunning Okains Bay on the South Island. Enjoy camping for all ages with a huge range of activities on offer!

There are a number of safe beaches for kids to splash about at this family-friendly spot, along with plenty of walks in the area, including Little Okains Walk, Banks Peninsula Walks and more. Head out for the day and explore Big Hill (perfect for your next family photo!), Millennium Bridge, and Okains Bay Maori and Colonial Museum.

After a busy day exploring, head back to the camp and make use of their toilets, washing facilities, showers and kitchens. There’s also lots for kids to keep busy, with a huge adventure playground that includes two flying foxes, a climbing frame, swings, slide and more.
