1. Shelly Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park

Set amongst seven acres of beachfront park, this spot for dog friendly camping in the Coromandel has a stunning outlook over the Hauraki Gulf for you to soak up. And it’s usually dog friendly if you visit outside of peak times (T&Cs apply so call park before booking).
Use this holiday park as a base while you explore the sea, farmland and native bush around you, paying special attention to the birdlife and incredible sunsets on your doorstep. The beautiful Kikowhakarere Bay is perfect for exploring and swimming, or at low tide you can make the walk to Tucks Bay and take on the Shelly Beach Kauri Walkway Loop.
With more than 150 camp site options throughout the park, it’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature. During your stay, you can enjoy the heated pool, while kids will get a kick out of the splash zone. During your stay, you can take a trip to Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove (note dogs are not permitted here) and Whitianga, or spend the day enjoying the Coromandel beaches before washing off in the swimming hole at the camp. There’s plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy nearby, including horse trekking, bushwalks, trout fishing, kayaking and more.
One of the best dog-friendly camping grounds on the North Island, Riverglen Holiday Park & Campground offers lots of open space to choose from, just drive up and park your campervan! There is a playground, two trampolines, a foosball table and a ping pong table. They also have some bikes for kids to ride around the camp BYO helmet, darts, sports gear and tubes to use at the river. There’s also a shared kitchen and BBQ area.

This dog friendly camping in the Coromandel is nice and central to all the main sites, just 15 minutes from Cathedral Cove walk, 10 minutes from Hot Water Beach and 15 minutes again to the local marine reserve, Hahei, for snorkelling. Note you will likely have to leave your dog behind for these bucket list activities, as they may not permit pooches!

This spacious family farm is the perfect spot to bring your four-legged friend for a camping adventure! While it’s a 30-minute drive from the centre of Coromandel, it’s well-worth checking out. Dogs are allowed with prior arrangement and must have a current vaccination certificate.
Bordered by a working farm, Otautu Bay Farm Camp is along the bay, so you can jump on the water for boating, fishing, kayaking and swimming. It’s a great spot to relax back and enjoy some of the walks in the area with your dog before enjoying a stunning sunset.
At the camp you will find coin-operated hot showers, toilets, laundry and more.

There’s plenty to do and see in the area. Start off by taking a hike on the leisurely 3km Kauri Track, which will take you into Coromandel Town to see the sites. You can also take the Tucks Bay Coastal walk, which follows the coast with a great lookout point about halfway along.
At the camp you will find an onsite boat ramp, playground, kayak hire, paddle board hire and access to fishing, water sports and swimming. You also have access to a camp kitchen, laundry facilities, toilet block, coin-operated showers, and dump station.
