Ready to take off on your Abel Tasman road trip? Make this your first stop! There’s so much to do in the Abel Tasman area, and this is the perfect spot to base yourself for exploration.
You can jump on a water taxi and check out the stunning coastline, go hiking at The Falls River Swingbridge, which offers incredible views down Falls River, or head off swimming at one of their crystal-clear swimming spots.

4. Old Macdonald's Farm Holiday Park

Looking for something a little different? Old Macdonald’s Farm is right next to the Marahau River, at the entrance to the incredible Abel Tasman National Park. It’s the perfect spot to base yourself to explore the area, and you can even set off on a coastal hike, leaving your campervan here while you trek - staying the night at one of the other non-accessible campgrounds above as you go.
Head out on a trek, try some kayaking, jump in a water taxi to explore the area, or dive in for some river swimming. There’s plenty to keep you entertained for your stay.

If you’re looking for a campsite with all the bells and whistles for your stay in Abel Tasman, then head straight to Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park. Just a 20-minute drive from the National Park, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy when you’re not off exploring the natural beauty.
There’s plenty more around the area, including Te Waikoropupu Springs, Wharariki Beach, Farewell Spit or Salmon Fishing. You can even check out some local wineries or local craft beers nearby.
At the campsite, there’s so much to do with a playground, spa, swimming pool, jumping pillow and bike hire to keep you entertained. They also have plenty of facilities, including laundry, wifi and a BBQ area.
6. The Barn Cabins & Camp

Located at the edge of Abel Tasman National Park in the Marahau Valley, this is the perfect spot to base yourself for a holiday of exploration and relaxation.
Roll your campervan in and enjoy some stunning views over Tasman Bay and Fisherman Island. After a long day hiking in the surrounding bush, you can settle back and watch as the sun rises over the water.

7. Canaan Downs Campsite

Located near the entrances to a number of tracks in Abel Tasman National Park, this is the perfect site to base yourself. It’s down a gravel road, which isn’t suited to larger campervans - so keep this in mind, as you may find another way down and come back for the van after a night exploring.
There’s plenty to do in the area with mountain biking, walking and caves to check out nearby. You could spend a day or a week exploring the nearby area - it all depends on how much of the track you wish to cover.
